Circulairstaal® originated in 2016, when Brink Staalbouw won the National Sustainability Award. That moment marked the starting point of a clear ambition: no longer designing steel structures for recycling, but for direct reuse—one-to-one, without loss of value. This laid the foundation for circular construction with steel.

Stichting Noest
After years of development and preparation, Circulairstaal B.V. was founded in 2020. Under the leadership of Aniek Averesch, ambitions were translated into measurable results. Circulairstaal® was, among other things, the first steel contractor in the Netherlands with an MKI score and an entry in the National Environmental Database, introduced the environmentally friendly steel coating Biocoat®, and was a co-initiator of the Steel Construction Agreement (Bouwakkoord Staal) within the Dutch steel construction chain.

Circulairstaal® was the first steel contractor in the Netherlands to deliver projects in which sustainability and circularity were made demonstrable and measurable, such as the DAVO distribution center in Deventer for Metron Vastgoed B.V. In addition, we developed several innovations in Design for Disassembly, including proprietary connectors that enable fully weld-free steel structures. Today, we are delivering circular steel structures for major developers and investors in the Netherlands, including Intospace, SEGRO, Delta Development, and WDP.

The most environmentally friendly steel coating
Together with our partners, we have succeeded in developing a new generation of sustainable steel preservation. Biocoat® is the most CO2-friendly coating in today's steel market.
Biocoat® is the most environmentally friendly form of steel coating in the current market. The sustainable coating is a replacement alternative for the environmentally damaging wet painting of structures in indoor situations. The coating is low in CO2 emissions and has a low MKI score. Biocoat® therefore fits perfectly with the circular objectives of our company!
The Biocoat® coating is user-friendly, fully covering, and suitable for steel structures in indoor situations where the humidity is maximum 40% (load classes C1 and C2). The coating is also suitable as a primer for a 2-layer preservation system in higher load classes.
